마차살 is in my hall of greatest moments I want to relive over and over again. The plot, prose, and characters are phenomenal. They make me want to examine author-nim’s brain to see how they could have come up with such a masterpiece. Every character is woven with great depth and complexity. They are so very “human.” As for me, Elias stole my heart. He’s the living embodiment of freedom and justice. Elias my beloved kind-hearted soul.
The writing is so good I want to pick it up from the screen and devour it whole. This is the type of novel where you sit back and think about life in the middle of a reading session, simply because of how profound the novel is. The setting is historically accurate Europe in the 19th century. From the philosophy, politics and culture, everything is proof of author-nim’s great understanding of the topics depicted in the novel. However, what I adore the most about this novel is its characters. I love Eszett to death, especially Elias and Lukas. Their love for each other cannot be described in mere words. Each member are remarkable in their own ways. I truly, truly love 마차살.
