    Summary

A black poison with a blue tint swayed before my eyes. My brother, with a gentle smile, softly spoke. “Drink it now, Luka.” When I opened my eyes, I became an extra character destined to die at the hands of my brother. To make matters worse, I can’t even use magic and I’m universally disliked? First, let’s regain my strength.

lukas is very charismatic and intelligent. it is not shown through words on paper but through his actions, “show not tell” basically. authornim’s writing is incredibly thought-provoking. it’s definitely not a novel you can just skim through. the synopsis doesn’t do this novel justice. this work contains heavy topics, such as politics, ethical issues, religions, etc. if you’re looking for a traditional action fantasy story, this one is not for you. it’s a story about humanity.

This novel is not for everyone. If you’re looking for a first and foremost “fantasy” novel, then it’s not for you. “Fantasy” is a device used for the major plot points. It’s not a prevalent aspect. This is insanely difficult read due to its many heavy themes, such as politics, philosophy, social ethics, etc. You must grasp every word in order to get the full picture, that means no room for skimming. The writing is paired wonderfully well with its plot. Many analogies, metaphors, and references are used. In fact, the novel itself references a lot of classics and philosophical works, such as “German Love,” “Hamlet,” “ Thus Spoke Zarathustra,” “Meditations,” etc. This novel is a true literary work. The characters are meticulously written, each one with their own story and characteristics. You learn about them slowly but surely, and you will then be able to tell who from who even with just gestures and dialogue patterns. Lukas Askanier, the MC, shows enormous care and love for all those close to him. He’s intelligent, considerate, and benevolent. Lukas is constantly condemned by the world as one different from their own. This is a story about a person fighting for his humanity. In that fight, he suffered in every way possible. Without the love of those closest to him, he would have lost himself entirely. This is one of my most dedicated novel. I adore everything about it. It isn’t an exaggeration to say it contributes to shaping me as a human. This is a novel I hold dear to my heart.
