This is a very good novel, but I feel that its quality drops significantly in the second half. I absolutely loved the first part, from the world-building and the way the setting works to the protagonist's development. The supporting cast is also handled well overall, even though a few characters end up being sidelined. I struggled a lot with the protagonist's personality and many of the decisions he made at the beginning. To be honest, I still had the same issue by the end of the story. Even so, the world-building, the different power systems, and the relationships between the characters kept me invested and made me want to continue reading. However, the second half really made me lose interest, to the point where I started skipping some chapters. The story shifts into a completely different direction, the protagonist's powers change dramatically, and I simply didn't enjoy that change.
My favorite work from Warmaisach. Phenomenal storytelling about a complex protagonist navigating an apocalyptic world designed to suppress humanity.
